The move introduces a critical subsea connection between Marseille and Milan, enhancing route diversity and addressing growing demand for resilient alternatives to traditional data transit corridors across Europe.

Operated by Sipartech, the Medloop Cable System supplements existing terrestrial and subsea routes with a low-latency, high-capacity pathway that links Marseille with key cities such as Genoa and Barcelona. This strategic enhancement would strengthen critical infrastructure in Southern Europe and reduces dependence on congested and vulnerable central European transit hubs. For RETN, the addition translates into greater network diversity, improved redundancy, and a significant capacity upgrade along the Marseille–Paris corridor.

Milko Ilari, Head of Southern Europe at RETN, emphasized the importance of the move in adapting to the region’s evolving connectivity landscape. “RETN is committed to delivering secure, high-performance, and truly diverse network options. By integrating the Medloop Cable System, we reinforce our end-to-end resilience strategy, eliminating single points of failure and enabling high-capacity, direct routes from Milan to Amsterdam, London, Madrid, and other key destinations.”

Bridging Europe and Global Markets

The integration is part of RETN’s broader mission to decentralize European data flows and provide enhanced reliability for enterprise and wholesale customers.

As Marseille increasingly emerges as a critical interconnection hub, RETN’s strengthened position would promise faster access to cloud services, content networks, and data center ecosystems throughout the continent and beyond. The move would also underscore the company’s role in bridging European and global markets with next-generation infrastructure solutions.
